Faith, Fairy Tales, and Other True Things

The Time Has Come

Kloria Publishing and I have been on an almost year-long quest to create a Lutheran fairy tale based on the First Commandment and Luther’s Large Catechism. I am pleased to introduce you to my debut novel, Above All Things: The Tale of the King.

Isn’t it beautiful? The illustrator, Mr. Jesse Cordes, did a remarkable job, and I am so thrilled! I am excited to share this story with you and your family. My wonderful editor, Mrs. Heather Smith, made the story sing, and Kirk Meyer and his team at Kloria Publishing put their hearts and souls into making this series happen. Thank God for these faithful and talented people!

And there is so much more to come. This book is the first of a ten-part series to teach children to understand and to love the Ten Commandments. Each book uses the elements of fairy tale and allegory to proclaim the beauty and truth of God’s Law.

And while I busily work on the other nine books, I hope your family will savor this one. It is available for preorder now! The official release date is Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Speaking of Books

Speaking at the CCLE Summer Conference at Concordia Nebraska, July 2024

One simply cannot write a book about knights and dragons and quests without going on a journey, so this summer, I’m taking Above All Things: The Tale of the King on the road!

The wonderful and talented Katie Schuermann will be launching the second book in The Creed Series the same day that I launch the first book in The Commandments Series, and I am over-the-moon excited to go on this adventure together!

Our first stop will be right here in my home state! Mrs. Schuermann and I will be hosting an official launch party at Faith Lutheran School in Plano, Texas on Wednesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. Our books will be available for sale and signing that night.

In June, Mrs. Schuermann and I will visit churches in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri! I will send out more information about where you can find us in my next newsletter.

Mrs. Schuermann and I will also be speaking and signing books at the Consortium for Classical Lutheran Education’s Summer Conference at Concordia Wisconsin in July, and I have been asked to speak on about teaching fairy tales at Lutheranism and the Classics at the Seminary in Fort Wayne in October.

Stay tuned for more details!

Brave Knights & Heroic Courage

“Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.”
–C. S. Lewis

Our Lord gives the very best gifts, and it is a blessing to pass those gifts on to our children. I pray that this book would be a blessing to you, your families, and your classrooms. Thanks be to God!
